Welcome to Kulturstationen
UPDATE: we can't accept any WWOOF:ers this year. Sorry, but there just isn't any time. Artur is a Couch Surfing host, though. If you wish to come and just stay, please email arturkowalski@hotmail.com
We might open up Myra Station to WWOOF again in 2010. Thank you for the beautiful time so far!!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We're a family (Artur 35, Minna perpetually 23+, Josef 4) living in a 19:th century ex-trainstation on the brink of a forest in Värmland, western Sweden.
We're situated in a pretty remote area, but where the train tracks used to be, there's a brand new paved bicycle trail, 90 km long through the forest. Thus, we get a lot of visitors in the daytime but peace and quiet in the evenings.
The station house was once the hub of the area, but has been badly mistreated over the years, and we're trying to save it, both on a physical and social level. From the station, we're running a non profit organization, working with ecology and culture. Our activities are under development and include:
* A makeshift café, serving only organically produced food and coffee. We operate on a pay-from-your-heart principle, so no fixed prices!
* Seminars and workshops, revolving around culture, ecology and alternative medicine.
* A small magazine library focused on cultural magazines, underground comics, ecological papers et c.
* A film club screening underground and cult films.
* This year, we'll be starting a little store, selling ecological soaps, herbal teas, handicraft et c. If you're into making these kinds of things, you're welcome to try and sell them here.
* Another new project for this season - we're hoping to bring animals to the station. We'll be starting off with chickens and possibly sheep, and see where it goes from there...
April through August, we're going to need the help of 2-3 volunteers at a time. There are many varied tasks to choose from:
* Work in the ecological café - a pretty simple job, we serve only sodas, home made cookies and coffe, but it's all done with love!
* Help us refurbish the station, paint it et c. This year we're putting extra energy into construction.
* Help out with the cultural events.
* Help us establish a small organic plantation.
* Cooking for everyone here (rotating task).
* Work in the garden.
* Occasionally take care of Josef.
* Play music for our visitors, either live or from CD. Please bring good music!
* Hold workshops or seminars on, for example: Indian Art, Tai Chi, How to Run Your Car on Vegetable Oil, the Mayan Calendar, Urban Self Defence et c.
We only have space for three volunteers and last year we unfortunately had to turn some people down. This year we really need to work on the house, so volunteers with CONSTRUCTION EXPERIENCE will be PRIORITIZED. We prefer that you stay for at least two weeks. We're carnivores who don't mind eating vego. However, our experience is that adapting to vegans is too much hassle, sorry. Friendly dogs and children welcome. Contact us for more information.
