Alsike Trädgård is situated 5 km from the small town Knivsta. It’s about 15 km to Uppsala and 50 km to Stockholm. We live in a beautiful country area close to the lake Mälaren and the national reservation Morga Hage (good area for recreation and bath).
We grow vegetables on 1 ha close to a small lake. We have a big varity of crops and like to experiment with different types of cultivation. Close to our main house lays a small greenhouse for plants in springtime and wine and tomatoes in summertime. It’s closely connected to our chickens (its just 18 of them).
We need help the whole season (May - Okt). We work together with planting, transplanting, weeding, tending plants, harvesting, packing vegetables in baskets and selling through our delivering system and at the square in Uppsala or Stockholm.
Alsike Trädgårds Wwoof periods for year 2012 will be divided into two periods. The first period will be between 15th of May to 25th of July. The second period will be from 13th of august until 15th of October.
First period (15 May – 25 July)
We work together with planting, transplanting, weeding and tending plants. We work between 08.00 – 14.00 Monday to Friday. We take a longer coffee break at 10.30. We eat together at 14.30. We make the food together, so be prepared to do the cooking at least once per week. You will not work Saturday and Sundays.
Second period (10 August – 15 October)
We work together with weeding, harvesting, packing vegetables in baskets and selling through our delivering system and selling at the farmers market in Uppsala or Stockholm. The work will be more concentrated to the weekend with selling days at the farmers market. Be prepared for one full day (Friday or Saturday) of work and the rest shorter days of four hours work. You will be free either Saturday-Sunday or Sunday-Monday.
We make the food together, so be prepared to do the cooking at least once per week.
The accommodation is simple. We have a four bed "bungalow" house. You will have access to toilet, shower and washing machine. You will also have acces to wireless Internet and a computer. It’s easy to access other parts of Sweden through the railway in Knivsta (10 min to Uppsala, 30 min to Stockholm). You can borrow bicycle from us.
Together we prepare both vegetarian food and meet food. Mostly we eat together in the afternoon (you can prepare your own food in the evening).
We speak Swedish and English fluently. But we have been travelling/working in Latin America and Africa so a few words of Spanish and Swahili we understand.
We have three children who his 5, 9 and 16 years old. It’s also three more families living close to our house who cheering the same outside environment.
You will also be working parttime with our neighbour who is an organic farmer with cheep and cattle. They have 60 Gottland Cheeps, 12 Angus cows whith a bull and 9 horses.
