Welcome to Anders Stenmark och Eva Sundberg

Åland is a selfgouverned region of Finland. Åland is situated east of Uppland. We run a sheep farm on Björkö which is a small island 5 km long an about 1,5 km wide. You find Björkö on a map of Finland in the middle between Mariehamn (the capital of Åland) and Turku (Finland´s second biggest city). Right now - 15 jan 2012 - we keep 60 ewes and 180 lambs in our sheep house. Activities on the farm: lambing period from the end of March until the beginning of May. We expect to get about 120 lambs. Fencing work, tiding up the sheep house, moving sheep to new pastures in May. Hay and silage harvesting, fencing work, moving sheep and preparing for an annual party in the sheep house for friends and neighbours in July. Different kinds of work connected with sheep farming. We also produce firewood both for our own use and for others. In July and in September we participate in different marketevents where we sell products like meat, burgers, yarn, furs and so on.
We expect that our volunteer participates in our daily work. Sometimes we work every day of the week, but sometimes we are able to relax and go swimming and fishing - we live just a few meters from the sea. Our volunteer will have his/her own house to stay in but we have our meals together. Driver´s license is a plus but not necessary.
