Welcome to Eriksberg
ERIKSBERG
We are a family of artists: Peter 67, Cilla 65, Ossian 34, Lotta 31 and Noanoa 27. We live in Eriksberg, a large timber villa from the late eighteenth century – laid log structure with elegantly decorated wood panel facade. The house lies in Drottningholm on the island of Lovö in Lake Mälaren just outside Stockholm to the west. It stands on a cliff overlooking the lake, isolated from neighbors by the surrounding oak wood. Especially during the summer we have lots of young visitors, mostly Noanoas friends.
Eriksberg combines unspoiled nature, culture and the excitement of the big city. From the house it takes only a one minute walk down the cliff path to reach the lake for a swim. Five minutes to the royal palace, where the king and queen live, with its park and gardens. Forty minutes by bus and metro and you are in the city centre of Stockholm.
The house is unique in that unlike most similar villas it has never been more than superficially modernized. Today it is much as it was when completed in the 1890s. However, the time has come for extensive renovation, both inside and out. The last two summers we have renovated the bottom floor and installed geothermal heating. With help from wwoofers we have scraped and painted over half the exterior walls of the house. This year we need to finish this painting and start renovating the windows, and extend our new vegetable garden (following permaculture principles). We have lots of carpenting work that needs to be done, and have quantities of beautiful old timber available. A dream for a carpenter!
So how can you help and what can you expect if you come to Eriksberg?
We need a couple of Wwoofers for at least two weeks at a time throughout the months April to November. We are seeking people who have an interest in old houses and/or an interest in gardening (anyone with knowledge of Permaculture is especially welcome). Those with practical skills get priority. You will also be expected to help in making food (rotating schedule), so cooking, carpentry and gardening skills are valued. We will do all we can to see that you have interesting and varied tasks, unless of course you see some specific project you would like to concentrate on that fits in with the overall plan. Above all, we are looking for those who are willing to try their hand at anything; learning through doing is the royal road to wisdom!
You will get your own room with a beautiful view. We eat mainly organic food, including fish and meat, mostly wild (elk, reindeer etc), but some of us are vegetarian, so both appetites need to be catered for at meal times. Vegans complicate matters a bit too much, so there we draw a line.
If you are interested, mail us with information about yourself, your interests and skills. We will get back to you as soon as we can.
PS:Our friends at Rosenhill live on an island not far away – see elsewhere on this site.
