Welcome to Holstenhof
Holstenhof is a small farm consisting of about 5ha, situated about 60 kilmetres north-east from Malmö and 44 kilometres east of Lund in the municipal area called Sjöbo.
On the farm, we have a small woodfired stone oven bakery, café and several animals for which we grow most of the food ourselves, although this far in a conventional way.
In the bakery, we use ecologically grown and produced ingredients as far as possible.
The animals we keep, are mostly old Swedish native farm animals which are more or less endangered, Linderödssvin (pigs), Fjällnära boskap (cows), Skånsk Blommehöna (hens) and Skånegås (geese).
From these animals, we get much of our food. Meat comes mostly from our own pigs, cows and chickens, milk from our own cows and eggs from our hens. Our goal is to be completely self sufficient with regards to food and to grow everything in an ecologically sound way.
Since much of the farm hasn't been in real use for quite some time, our vegetable gardens needs a lot of tending, and due to several reasons, we have not yet managed to keep the weeds under control.
Sophie has been growing lot's of vegetables before and is, since many years, a member of a group that want's to rescue oldstyle seeds/vegetables (SESAM). Unfortunately the bakery, the animals and Joachims ordinary work takes up most of our time, and the soil and plants need more care than we have been able to provide.
We are very historically interested and want to know and understand how things were done in old times, but we utilize modern machinery when necessary. This historical interest runs as a thread through all our endevours.
We are happy to teach what we know, but just as eager to learn new things ourselves.
We need help with tending the animals, help in the bakery, building and renovating work, garden and fields, fencing, hay and straw harvest, mending machines and much more, so all skills are welcome.
We can take 1-4 WWOOF:ers depending on if it's possible to share rooms. You will live in guestrooms in the main house as a part of the family. During the summer, it is possible to live in tents on the grounds if you wish, but we will not take more WWOOF:ers than we can accomodate indoors.
Allergies can be a problem, since we have several cats and a dog indoors and farm animals, hay and straw in the stables. We also allow smoking indoors (kitchen and livingroom). Smoking is not allowed in the bedrooms, the bakery or the stables and barns.
You do not have to be a teetotalist, but do not mix work and alcohol and drink responsibly. No other kind of drugs are accepted.
During summer swimming possibilites exist in a natural lake 5km from the farm or in an outdoors pool about 5km from the farm.
The cities Ystad, Lund, Malmö and Kristianstad are reached by bus. The farm is situated quite close to Österlen, an attractive tourist area, not far from the Baltic sea.
We would like your help about 4h/day.
We normally work on saturdays or sundays as well. It would be appreciated if you sometimes could help during these days instead of a couple of week days. Sophie is mostly working on the farm or in the bakery.
You are very welcome to contact us for further information!
