Welcome to Ramshyttan Horse Farm

Ramshyttan Horse Farm is a young venture, situated in the Kilsbergen hills 30km north of Örebro. It is a semi wilderness area, consisting of forest and lakes. In the area are elk, wolves, deer, lynx, beaver, badgers, foxes, and prolific bird life.

Our organic farming has had some setbacks. Two years ago we lost all of our beehives because of the unusual weather conditions. We had been getting wonderful honey from the mountain heather. We hope to obtain new hives in 2011.

Last autumn we built a 25 sq metre greenhouse in which we plan to grow chili, butternut squash, tomatoes, herbs and some aubergine this year.

We do our own composting, using left over hay, silage and straw, horse manure, good black soil and of course greens from the kitchen. Luckily our fields have never been exposed to chemical fertilisers or pesticides.

We are applying some Permaculture principles, ( mulch gardens, herb spirals etc.) having seen in Australia the great benefits to be gained!

Wwoofers can work with composting, preparing herb and vegetable beds, tending the greenhouse, assisting with gathering firewood in the forest, and helping with the horses, including riding and training.

Animals
Our Friesians and Icelandic horses have no iron shoes nailed to their hooves and we never lock them up in stables. They have free access to shelters, and large pastures and plenty of forest to roam around in. We offer riding tours, natural horsemanship courses, and accommodation for people who want to come here with their horses.

Work possibilities
Wwoofers can work with composting, preparing herb and vegetable beds, tending the greenhouse, assisting with clearing and gathering firewood in the forest, repair work to buildings, and helping with the horses, including riding and training.

We need wwoofers for this summer!.
