Welcome to Skackodegarden

Skackodegarden is an old farm on the shore of beautiful lake Vastra Silen and we are working hard to bring it back to life. We need help most of the time with this big project . We have a lot of woodland to work in (55 hectares of woodland and 10 of arable/pasture) clearing land, fencing, renovating buildings and horse drawn machinery.

Typical jobs
April/May: Cutting wood for the fires, splitting and stacking, planting, fencing, painting caring for the animals (every month!)
June: Land clearing, fencing, painting buildings, endless lawn mowing, strimming and tidying - possibly haymaking
July/Aug: Berry havesting, processing into juice and jams, land clearing, painting, lawns, care of veggie patch, harvesting etc.
Sept/Oct: Picking berries, mushrroms, veggies, bonfires and other land jobs
Nov/Dec: bonfires, land clearing etc.

We have 11 rare breed sheep, and some chickens. This year we are concentrating on house renovation, growing vegetables and working on the land - we also have a large black bouncy dog and a 'barn' cat.

We came here from England to 'retire' , have space and live and farm organically . The scenery is stunning, the air clear and fresh and there are very few people - we love it!

We are not religious, do not smoke or do television but we like a glass of wine / beer, good food ( vegetarian plus fish ) and have a great sense of humour. If you like to play music that's cool too.

If you would like to come and help us and maybe Improve your English we have many skills to pass on. The work this year is mainly clearing land, helping with the animals, some building renovation, painting, berry picking and helping in the house and veggie garden. A lot of it hard physical oudoor work and you need to be fit. We need help up to when the snow comes usually in December. Some experience would be helpful but if you are practical, love being outdoors and are not afraid of hard work, you have plenty of enthusiasm and want to learn that's ok too.

During the summer we work long hours outside and always appreciate willing helpers rather than clock watchers! Office people note, we do not work set hours - we work until the job is done!

Accommodation is in the loft of one of our old barns in the summer and we ask that you keep your wwoofer area tidy, respect our property and animals, please make sure you have personal accident insurance - just in case! If you stay more than two weeks you can have limited free use of our washing machine. As well as the lake for washing/swimming a hot shower is available in the main house but must be used sensibly as electricity is very expensive here. Please note - there is no free access to the fridge! We provide 3 good meals a day - If you want extra snacks you must provide them yourself.

On your time off you can swim, fish, walk - the nearest village is 7+ kms and the nearest town 20 kms - peace and tranquility are assured here. There are no people, shops or traffic - so please think about how you will cope with this and outdoor farm life in general before deciding to come here.

We are also looking for a long term wwoofer, maybe someone who would like to live and work at Skackodegrden for a year. Essentially a farm sitter maybe someone who wants to chill out in the countryside for whatever reason. We will not take anyone long term for just the winter season when there can be very little work to do - so please do not apply to wwoof long term unless you can be with us for the summer too when we need more practical help.

If you have practical skills, love animals and are prepared to look after them in a caring and responsible way and are willing to tackle any job pleasant and not so pleasant, and do it to the best of your ability this would be a huge asset. Older wwoofers are always welcome! Non smokers only.
