Hej!
I am Kim. I bought my farm last autumn so everything is new and a start from the beginning. The plans during the summer is to make it possible to live in to next winter (make a oven), plant and grow vegetables and flowers and trees for self-sufficiency and for sale in small scale to my organic neighbour who is a restaurant and bed&breakfast, and on the market in city. Also to have hens, rabbits, bees and maybe lambs to begin with. I hope we will be able to use a horse to some work. We will set up fences, pick berries, make lactofermented vegetables and some building things. Make composts and make a growing/manure plan. Make wood. Mainly hand labour. We will see what we have time for. Here is a lot of needs and wishes :) But it have to be done in the time it takes, not stress. We will rest, too!
The people on the farm: Me, Kim. I am a 27 years old female. Hard of hearing. I'm speaking swedish, norwegian, latvian and ... well... a bit english :) I try! Yeah.. And then I even speak sign language; swedish and latvian sign language and I welcome deaf people or sign language users very much. But Everybody is welcome! :) But we are all deaf or hard of hearing here so you must have an interest in trying to make yourself understood and to understand us. It is not too difficult, don't be scared, just be open and happy :)
Rihards: 25 years old male from Latvia. Deaf, using russian and latvian sign language. Learning swedish now. No english. Maybe his wife will be here too, she is from Russia. His father Igors will maybe be here too. All three is deaf.
Nathalie: 30 years old female. Deaf/hard of hearing. Working in Papua New Guinea but living with me in summers. She is biologist and professional in plants and wants to make a permaculture forest-garden here. She is speaking a load of languages... öh... swedish, scandianavian, english, tok pisin, a bit spanish... are what I can remind myself about right now. Sign languages: swedish, american, australian, papua new guinea's, little latvian...
Foreting: Maybe Foreting, a deaf male from PNG and friend of Nathalie, will be here in summer too. Studying swedish organic farming and swedish deaf school system.
I am interested in handicraft and can teach you some things if you like. I love folk dance and will go to some festivals. You can follow me to things like that if you like, or stay on the farm with the others.
Bring your curiousness, helping hands, ideas, positive energy and rubber boots/working shoes (clean!). I have some working clothes and sheets and so on for you. You will get food and a bed in exhange for your work and help with cooking/dishes/cleaning (we all help with everything) Here is no shower, warm water nor toilet, only out-doo. Bathing we do in the lake some kilometres away or in kitchen with boiled water and a tub/bowl. So it is not so luxury here, quite simple. No TV but open wireless internet so you can bring your own laptop. Some of us are vegetarian, and some eat meat.
I want to receive wwoofers not only for the labourhelp, but also for friendship and the happiness in sharing work, ideas, the everyday tasks... I also gladly discuss with you why I do in my way of farming.
I have to tell you that I have to earn money outside the farm too because everything is new and I don't have any income from the farm yet. So I will not be at home every day. I'm really sad for that, but I hope it will be possible later. But it is always somebody at home from june on. In may I guess it can be a bit lonely here, but if you like to be alone sometimes you are very welcome in may too!
I can not hear so good in telephone to please only send SMS - text messages on mobile phone, or e-mail. Or letters.
