Welcome to Farfarsgården (Grandfathers farm) on the big island Ekerö quite near Stockholm.
We are apple farmers and also keep some animals. We have about 400 apple trees of various kinds. We have sheep, rabbits, cats and dogs. We are planning for hens or ducks in the summer.
Our vision is to live within the nature and use the resources in a modern way.
We are a couple who has grown up in the country next to our grandparents. Our knowledge is inherited from small-scaled farmers from several generations.
We have started with a completely empty plot and will build a modern small farm. We try to make this so close self-catering as possible in a modern way, where both people and animal’s feels well.
We will not go back 100 years in time, we will instead use both modern and old-fashioned knowledge and inventions to get hold of the pleasant life.
If you choose to have a WWOOF period with us, you will deal with some various kind of work as:
• Carpentry: A lot of new building will take place…..
• Machinery: Always something to fix….
• Pruning: 400 apple trees are looking forward to look nice…
• Gardening: Plan a new walking garden with “rooms”.
• Planting, harvest: New vegetable garden is planned and an area for growing feed to the animals….
• Animals: Feed and look after….
We live near the lake of Mälaren, with a bathing place 500 meters from our farm. Next to the farm there are buses running to Stockholm several times a day. You will have your own place in a caravan next to our house and will share the meals with us. We are not able to provide special food to vegetarians.
