We have a guesthouse in a small village in Lapland. The guesthouse is a beautiful timber building, once the village vicarage which we have renovated with environmental sustainability in mind.
The guesthouse is located centrally in our village, Junosuando. Surrounding the village there is mainly, rivers and wetlands. Despite the fact that we are 100 km north of the Arctic Circle, it is possible to grow organic vegetables in our part of Lapland. We use over 90% organic ingredients in the guesthouse kitchen and our goal is to develop our own garden and grow more of this ourselves. We prefer that you can commit to a stay of at least 2 weeks, preferably more.
We need help in the garden from late May to late September. Wwoofers would be expected to help with a variety of chores relating to the garden and care of the property and work an average of five hours per day, with one day off per week. We will plan the work together with you but you will need to work independently sometimes. The work will be things like preparing the land, sowing, weeding, harvesting or other general maintenance chores relating to the property like painting and lawn mowing. During July and August there are many mosquitoes and gnats and it is usually necessary to cover up well with clothing.
We have fishing equipment and a canoe which you may borrow. We have bicycles to loan and a wood-fire sauna that you are welcome to enjoy. The forests around are great for picking wild berries and mushrooms, and we would be happy to have you join us in collecting. We also have a stone wood fired oven and baking room if you are interested in bread-baking.
We even take volunteers in the autumn and winter, but then the work we need help with is general maintenance, cleaning, kitchen work, and help with our three small children. In the winter you can experience the snow and Northern Lights. We have warm winter clothing, boots, cross-country skis and snowshoes you can borrow.
Wwoofers will be accommodated either in the guesthouse or in a private cottage nearby and share meals with our family. We are vegetarians.
