Välkommen till Orreviks Gård

Welcome to Orreviks Gård, where this year we are focusing on tending the wild (vildkultur.se). In general, this means we will continue our main work of renovating the farm buildings, while also creating an environment rich in wildlife, both around the farm and in the woods.

We'll be planting new nectar-rich flowers, guilding the apple orchard, tending our cherry forest plantation and creating habitat for all kinds of life.

Also, we'll be offering short weekly sessions in permaculture, yoga, improvisation theater, nature awareness and more. These will be free for all WWOOFers.

Orreviks Gård was originally created in 1380. A lot has changed since. Today it's far smaller than it orginally was, and just the right size for a family-run farm. The farm buildings include a bed and breakfast from 1929.

Miki is a former journalist and film-director who now teaches nature awareness, permaculture design and tracking. Cecilia has previously worked in media and at the moment is a full-time mom for our young boys, Corbin and Quentin, who attend the local Waldorf kindergarden.

Since moving here 6 years ago, we have been renovating the main building from 1776 using traditional materials, applied permaculture design principles to growing our food and tending our forests, and offered programs in nature awareness and tracking for children and adults alike.

Our vision is to create a vibrant, multi-cultural place for people to meet and share their passion, skills, and knowledge of nature with others.

Orreviks Gård is located on the west coast of Sweden, in a varied and rich landscape that lies by the sea and stretches into the hills to the north. Here you will be able to share in the farm work, and wash off your sweat in the cool sea.

We are looking for people who are excited to do manual labor in a community setting to contribute to the realization of a vision of living in good balance with all relations. We welcome anyone who has a passion for nature, is willing to learn by doing, and loves to share his or her experiences and skills with others.

The work in the green season is intense and sometimes physically demanding. We can almost promise that you’ll be in great shape at the end of your stay.

Work chores include pruning some of the 20 trees in our apple orchard, establishing a new forest designed to optimize flora and fauna, renovating and maintaining the buildings using traditional skills, feeding and tending the horses and other farm animals, cutting meadows with scythes, tending the vegetable garden, and much, much more.

If you decide that you want to contribute to our vision, please bring an instrument if you play one. We'd love to have more music around the fire.

What to Expect

Permaculture: We’re implementing a permaculture design for the farm. This means we’ll be planting trees and bushes, building chicken coops, sheet mulch vegetable patches, clear brush, compost, grow shiitake mushrooms on logs, etc.

Buildings: With five large buildings, the warmer season is our time for repairs, renovation and maintenance. This means painting with linseed colors, replacing broken roof tiles, scraping paint off facades, building bird houses, etc.

Preparations: In the warm season we prepare also for winter. This may mean harvesting hay, tending the meadows, stacking wood in the barn.

Forests: The farm is surrounded by beautifully diverse forests. We’re enhancing the biological value and natural resilience of the woods. Work related to this may include maintaining fences intact, planting trees, girdling spruce and pine, clearing trails, stacking brush piles and localized burning of land.

Various: We can never predict what will happen in a given year. So your work may also include cooking for workshop activities, playing with the boys at the beach, caring for the horses, and many more surprising tasks.

Comforts: The bed and breakfast is from 1929 and provides ample sleeping space, along with our other buildings. Depending on the time of year, we can offer accommodation indoors, with soft beds and running cold water.

The bathroom is an outdoor toilet built into the barn. And for showering we set up an outdoor shower with privacy in the warm season.
