2007 we started a biodynamic vegetable garden on a small holding about 80 km south of Stockholm. It’s situated in between lakes and forests and there are a lot of wild animals about like deer, wild pigs and elks. We grow around 20 different vegetables on ca 1ha, which we sell to mostly private customers via a boxing system, which people subscribe to and get a box of vegetables delivered to their door.We also sell as part of a cooperative to shops and restaurants and schools. In the autumn we take part in a market scheme. A little is also sold to neighbours in our little farm shop.
We are an “international” family of 4: Martin comes from England, Malin from Germany with Swedish roots and our two children Fabian (14) and Oliver (11) were born in Scotland. We've been in Sweden since 2003. Malin has worked full time in the garden since the start,while Martin will work this year for the first time fully in the garden.
At the moment we’re still in the process of establishing the garden. This year we will be building a bigger greenhouse and a bigger store for the winter.
The main work consists of gardening according to season: In April, May and June there is a lot of sowing, planting and general preparations, then comes weeding in June and Juli and in July we start harvesting till the end of the season at the end of October/November. Sometimes there are also other things that need doing like preparing wood for next winters fuel, painting etc. Most of the time we work together but there are times you need to do things on your own.
We take wwoofers from April/May till Oktober/November, but only 1-3at a time. We'd like you to stay a minimum of 3 weeks or longer, as it takes time to get to know both place and people.
In the barn the old grain storage loft has been converted to living quarters, where 2 wwoofers will stay. At times you will share the accomodation with another wwoofer. There is also a caravan that can be used for 1 person.
You’ll be working with us with the things that are needed each day. Mostly you'll be working 8-15, sometimes a little longer.
We take turns with cooking and other household duties. For varies reasons we eat a vegan diet (with the exception that we eat fish). If you're not familiar with it, we can help you with recepies for cooking.
We only have a partial accident insurance for our volonteers.
On the farm there are also other inhabitants: Malin's mother lives in the house nearby, and a friend of ours with her
You are of course welcome to join in family activities. There is a lake nearby where you can go swimming or use our little dingy, do some fishing or catch crayfish in August in cages. It is very peaceful here and walking and cycling are very enjoyable.
