After finishing my master degree in the Netherlands, I tried so hard to find a job opportunity for earning some practical experience to start up my career. But in this difficult time, I experienced the dead circle of “No experience, no job.” Therefore, wwoof is my solution to earn some practical experience. Also, I love to travel around, but I have a limited budget. Then I think about which country is my first choice that I want to go again and see more? Sweden! I love the Swedish summer, it seems to never end. Though you will get confused when you should go to bed, there are just so many beautiful views, like lakes and forests, in which you can spend a lot of time. Therefore, wwoof in Sweden becomes my goal!
I was born in the second biggest city in Taiwan, and there weren’t any chances for me to have a big and green back yard to rear up horses, chicks, dogs, or any other animals in the small tiny apartment. Even when I was doing my bachelor in the Animal Science department, we didn’t have enough space in our campus for our students to have practical farms. We had to drive our own scooters for almost 2 hours back and forward to our practical farm, which was not in a short distance and easily accessible location. Land is an extremely valuable source in Taiwan, so the first time I arrived in the Netherlands, I felt so envious with the Dutch families in Wageningen (where I studied for my master) having a big field of pasture for their horses or sheep. Yet, I was more impressed when I traveled to Sweden in 2011: there is more than enough space and less population; which means they seem to have larger back yard for animals. As I’m searching for Wwoof farmers in Sweden, the first thing that caught my eyes was that most farms seem to have animals, and some of them have my favorite animal, horse! I worked in a riding school in Taiwan, and I always want to work in a horse farm in Europe, especially in Sweden. There are many wooden made stables I have seen in Sweden, and they seem so comfortable and neat. I would love to live together with the horses in the wooden made stable!
During my study, I learnt that Swedish have the highest standard for animal welfare. Ever since, I would like to witness and experience what it is like to live with organic farm in Sweden; it must be the highest level of organic animal farm!! I have never been to an organic animal farm, so I can’t imagine how many happy animals there will be. Seeing happy animals will make me the happy animal lover. Further, I would like to learn how the organic animal farm to obtain sustainable goal in management. Then perhaps I can learn the principles and bring back to home country to work on sustainable agriculture! I’m really looking forward to wwoof in Sweden!
